Do you think reading makes a person smarter or more intelligent in any way? Why or why not?

You can read and then forget what you just read. It's a sieve and the sand.

I think reading can keep your brain active, so it may make your brain smarter, or cause your brain to less likely to forget how to spell words because you read the same word many times in a book, so you are more likely to know how to spell it.

I think reading can make you smarter by expanding your knowledge, and keeping your brain active, but it does not make you more intelligent.
Reading can help someone improve their vocabulary, critical thinking skills, and knowledge and understanding of a wide range of topics.
Even science fiction books have something to teach.
Ex.
"Ender's Game" by Orson Scott Card. This book explores subjects including leadership, strategy, and the repercussions of war, providing insights into human nature and the ways that people and society respond to hardship and conflict.
